Why work with our family solicitors?
Our family law team are firmly established as the trusted solicitors of individuals and families throughout South West London, Surrey and Middlesex. We have substantial experience in handling all aspects of family law, so are well-positioned to offer you the advice and support you need.
As members of Resolution, which promotes a non-confrontational approach to resolving legal matters, we are committed to finding positive and constructive solutions which minimise the emotional and financial burdens you may otherwise face.
We’re also people who value good service, so we work in a way that feels right to us and right for our clients. We communicate clearly, openly and honestly, so you’ll always be updated on the progress of your case and what we think of your options.
We are always fully transparent when it comes to fees. This means we will carefully manage the costs involved in your case and discuss the most cost-effective options that apply.
We do have a contract to provide legal aid funding for certain types of matters. Legal Aid is quite restricted. Legal aid is free for parents involved in public law proceedings (Child Care). For other matters it does depend on the matter type, departure rules and means testing such as for Domestic violence, Private Law children and finances. To find out more about this, or if you’re worried about how to pay for legal advice or representation, speak to our team. We’ll be able to help you with the legal aid application process and can talk to you about different options available to you.
Furthermore, we have expert solicitors and supporting teams working at each of our offices, making it easy for you to get in touch when you need us.
Our family and children services
Relationship breakdown
Ending a relationship comes with the unavoidable next step of formalising the separation, dividing assets, and making arrangements for the future. It’s challenging. But we’ll provide you with advice, support and action that enables you to draw a line under the past and move on.
Avoiding a legal battle between you and your former partner is usually the best course of action and the route we will take. Ultimately, we’ll always pursue the most constructive resolution to your case, even if that means having to take a matter to court.
Our services related to relationship breakdown include:
- Divorce
- Civil partnership dissolution
- Unmarried couples
- Financial arrangements
- Children
- Mediation
Children
Parents will always want to protect their children’s welfare, especially during and after separation, divorce, or any other type of family upheaval.
However, when there are disagreements between parents about arrangements for their children, there is the potential for disputes to quickly escalate. Our family law experts help parents, grandparents and other family members through various issues that affect their children. We encourage a constructive approach, ensuring clients are well represented and children’s best interests are served.
Our children law services include:
- Child arrangements
- Parenting agreements
- Care involving social services
- Grandparents and step-parents
- Financial support for children
Mediation
Mediation is a method of resolving disputes, such as those involving arrangements for children and finances. The process involves an impartial third-party mediator who facilitates discussions and helps the people involved work towards an workable outcome.
We offer family mediation through our own Resolution trained mediators who would be happy to discuss the process and your requirements further. Our experienced mediators recognise that family mediation is quicker, more cost-effective and less stressful than heading to court for your separation or divorce. It gives you control, reduces conflict and helps you to turn your arguments into agreements – ensuring your family stays in control of arrangements over children, property and finance.
If you are consulting us and wish to be referred to a mediator, we will direct you to someone who will be able to assist you.
If you are consulting us after you have engaged with mediation, our team can support you ensuring that you understand the next steps. We can also review any proposals made during mediation to confirm that they are suitable and will be in your best interests and, thereafter, assist with incorporating its terms into an order for the court’s approval/agreement to sign and implementation.
Planning ahead
While it isn’t the most romantic prospect, it is sensible to consider what arrangements should be in place if your relationship were to come to an end. Whether you are cohabiting, or plan to marry, there are several steps you can take to plan ahead and secure your future. Our family law team can support you with this, working alongside you to put a bespoke agreement in place that is tailored to your situation and what protections you require.
This includes advising on planning ahead with:
- Cohabitation agreements
- Pre & post-nuptial agreements
Domestic abuse
Domestic abuse takes many forms. It can be physical or sexual abuse, violence or threats, controlling or coercive behaviour, economic abuse, psychological, emotional or other abuse.
If you are experiencing any of these forms of domestic abuse, please speak to our team as soon as possible. We help secure the protections you need immediately.
